Two months after my first appointment with Dr Jackie, my Invisalign devices were ready. There are twenty- one in the set and I am to wear each one for two weeks. Th
is means that in 42 weeks, I will be done.
There were rules. Not that many and not that bad, but still rules:
* I cannot eat or drink hot or colored liquids. The heat can distort them and the colors can stain them
* I need to wear them 22 hours a day. This means I need to wear them all the time except when I eat– and I need to eat quickly. After eating I need to brush my teeth before reinserting the aligners.
* To clean them, I swish the aligners in Efferdent, the denture cleaner.
Then came the moment to put in my first aligner. I was worried that I had started something I couldn’t finish. What if they hurt? What if they looked so strange I didn’t want to wear them in public? I clicked the first one into place and relaxed. I was aware that it was in my mouth, but no pain. I could talk normally and no one seemed to notice them. I couldn’t stop smiling.
They are easy to wear and I often forget I have them on. The biggest problem is that I can’t sip coffe or tea as I go about my day. The aligners also discourage snacking, which is not such a bad thing. In the first week of wearing Invisalign, I dropped a pound. I didn’t realize how much I was nibbling throughout the day, but since each bit means I have to take them out, eat, brush and reinsert, I just skip the snack. Weight control is a nice value added benefit to Invisalign.
In my first week, I also noticed that my teeth looked whiter, probably due to fewer cups of tea and coffee. Although its been a very short time, I actually think that I can see a difference on my bottom teeth. I really didn’t care that much that they were not straight on the bottom, but I’m loving the new more even line. Apparently tiny Invisalign changes can have a huge difference on dental contours.

You can also clean your invisalign with toothpaste and brush, I carried a travel sized toothbrush and pasted in my purse so when we were eating out I could brush my teeth and invisaligns in the restrooms.
Dear Nononsensebeauty,
Neat Post, anyone know some general things about the invisalign braces? i am 19 years old and i am looking into getting invisalign. the idea of going off to college with a mouth full of metal isn’t pleasant.
do they work for everyone? or only certain cases? my teeth aren’t THAT bad. my bottom teeth look just fine (very, very mild crowding with the two front bottom teeth, but that is all) but my top teeth have just a little more problems. my two front teeth on the top haven’t completely bonded together and there is a little more minor crowding right next to it. the molars look fine on both the top and bottom teeth, though.
do you think invisalign could work for me? have you had invisalign before? were you happy with it? etc
all answers are appreciated
Nice One!
When it comes to Invisalign I’m still a newbie but I’m really impressed so far. In just 10 days I can see a real difference in my bottom teeth. I’ve found them comfortable and invisable to others. I would suggest that you email Invisalign and ask them to recommend a dentist in your area who is experienced with Invisalign. Most dentists charge $150-250 for a consultation to tell you what can Invisalign can do for you, how long it would take and how much it will cost. I’m going to be posting every few weeks to share my progress and you may be able to get an idea how it could work for you.
Hello Nononsensebeauty,
Neat Post, I’m getting married on July 22nd, and I’m going for a consultation for Invisalign on Tuesday. My teeth are pretty much straight, but the 2 front top teeth are turned in a little so that in pictures I look like I have a gap in my teeth from certain angles! It may sound silly, but I want to look my best on my special day, and it’s something that has been bothering me for a long time. It only happened since my wisdom teeth came in and crowded the others. I should have had them removed! Anyway, I’m just wondering if I will see any difference in my teeth in four months with invisalign.
I’ll be back to read more next time
How did you consultation go with Invisalign? I’m heading into my second week– only 40 more to go– and I can already see real changes in my bottom teetth. However most estimates that I have seen are nine- twelve months of Invisalign treatment, so I’m not sure if you can get what you want from about four months of Invisaign. However I have found that professional whitening from Zoom can make a huge difference in your smile, even without orthodenture. Just be sure to do it at least 10days before the ceremony. It can be uncomfortable for 48 hours after treatment and this is the last ime you need any additional stress. Let me know what you you choose to do.
